Tris dienas gaju caur dzilu mezu,

The Forge of Thunder

Three days I wandered through the deep forest,
Through the deep forest, through the holy forest;
On the fourth day I found a

A rapid river flows past that place,
The river throws silver waves.

A century-old oak tree grows by the river,
I hang my golden-hilted sword on it,
The golden branches reach up to the sky,

And now I wander through the heavenly fields.

I saw a high mountain in the sky,
A forge stood on the top of that mountain;
It was such a mighty forge,
With brazen doors and silver thresholds.

The heavenly blacksmith forges, sparks fly;
Forge, blacksmith, forge us a sun,
A sun that we can see shining in the sky.

A giant hammer in the blacksmith's hands,
Iron bends like a pig under that hammer,
A black billy goat quenches the coals,
Lightning leaps across the world.
