Two Leaves

I have never been the center of attention, nor have I been praised.
I am often trampled and kicked by people who come looking for shade, and my days are filled with misery.
On a gentle sunny afternoon, I reach my arms up to the sky alone.
Under the shade of a large tree, I eagerly await the flickering rays of sunlight.

Even on this day, the sunlight doesn't reach me. I watch with longing
as the flowers I admire sway gently in the breeze.
I will take my time and grow my roots until my moment arrives.
I will stretch my leaves wide and stand tall, time and time again, reaching toward the light.

Straight and tall, we grow at our own pace,
each of us unique in our own way.
We sway in the same wind, looking up at the sky, always wishing.
Straight and tall, we will sustain our lives.
Though we may be trampled, we will continue to grow toward the light.
Despite the hardships we face, we will never give up and will always dream of a brighter day.
In the shade, I will continue to live, until the day I am bathed in sunlight.

Even in the most trying of times, the soil has always been there for me,
and when I am feeling weak and want to give up, it whispers, "Don't worry, keep trying!"
Even I, small and insignificant as I may be, am deeply loved.
From now on, I will never again say that I have nothing, even if I am different from those around me.

Indeed, I am not alone. In the shade of the tree next to me,
I discover a companion who also yearns for the light.
Today, I will continue to grow my roots until my time comes.
I will unfurl my leaves fully and rise again and again, in my own unique way.
