A Tree

I don't cut my hair anymore,

My nails sink inward
Into the realm of Mother Earth.
My skin is bending and breaking,
I've digested so much sand and stone,
That I'm becoming so tired.

The wind passes through my fingers,
Was it yesterday, was it today.
I will not be awake all winter,
A woodpecker knocks on my cranium
Hoping for a good meal.
My head turns green, summer comes
With drops of dew and rain.
A shudder runs through my trunk,
I can already hear them, they're coming,
The men with their saws.
