कई सदियों पहली पुरानी बात है
कि जब से आसमाँ-ज़मीं का साथ है
और ये पागल हवा सनसनाती हुई
ढूँढती थी यहाँ, कहाँ मेरा प्यार है?

एक दिन ऊपर वाला राजा
सोच रहा था, "मैं कुछ बनाऊँ"
फिर उसने पर्वत बनाए
सोचा, "थोड़ी बर्फ़ बिछा दूँ"

बर्फ़ से जो पिघले, पिघल झरने झरे
कि झरनों से बही खिलखिलाती नदी
ये नदियों से बना जो सागर आज है
कई सदियों-सदियों पुरानी बात है

अब भी सोचे ऊपर वाला, "कैसे चलेगा ये संसार?
खड़ा रहेगा कौन ज़मीं पे? कौन बनेगा पालनहार?"
फिर धरती का किया शृंगार, पेड़ बनाए सुंदर पहरेदार

देख के ये शृंगार हो गया उसको प्यार
बना डाले जंगल, जंगल ही जंगल, यार
फिर तो लगने लगे फल, फल पे पकने लगे फल
ये नदियों की रवानी, पिएगा कौन पानी?
कोई तो रूह हो, कोई हो ज़िंदगानी
कि अब बच्चा कोई कहीं तो मुस्कुराए

उसकी तस्वीर जैसे पूरी होने लगी
मगर उसकी तमन्ना अधूरी ही रही
वो जादू से भरे जो बीज उसके पास थे
उसने फैला दिए ज़मीं पे, जो उनमें ख़ास थे

वो ऐसे पेड़ हैं जिनमें भगवान हैं
जो देते प्यार हैं, जो लेते प्यार हैं
उन्हें बच्चा कोई जो जा के गले लगाए
जो सपना देखे वो, वो सपना सच हो जाए

Centuries Ago

It's a tale from centuries past,
Since the sky and earth first embraced.
And this crazy wind, whistling and sighing,
Searching here, "Where is my love lying?"

One day, the King up above,
Thought, "Let me create something I love."
He formed the mountains, tall and grand,
Thought, "Let me spread some snow across the land."

As the snow melted, waterfalls cascaded,
From the falls, a sparkling river paraded.
These rivers formed the oceans we know today,
It's a tale from centuries, centuries away.

Still, He pondered, "How will this world go on?
Who will stand on the earth? Who will be its dawn?"
He adorned the earth, made trees, beautiful and strong,

Seeing this beauty, He fell in love,
Created forests, endless and lush, my dove.
Then fruits began to grow, ripening in the sun,
The rivers flowed, but who would drink from them, none?
There should be a soul, a life to behold,
So that a child somewhere could smile, stories untold.

His picture started coming to life,
But his desire remained rife.
The magical seeds he possessed,
He scattered them on the earth, among the blessed.

These are the trees that hold the divine,
Giving love, taking love, intertwined.
If a child embraces them with care,
The dreams they dream, will fill the air.
