Текст и перевод песни The Kingston Trio - The Reverend Mr. Black
The Reverend Mr. Black
Le Révérend Monsieur Black
(Billy
Edd
Wheeler/Jed
Peters)
(Billy
Edd
Wheeler/Jed
Peters)
He
rode
easy
in
the
saddle.
He
was
tall
and
lean,
and
at
first
you′d
a-thought
nothing
but
a
streak
of
mean
could
make
a
man
look
so
down
right
strong,
but
one
look
in
his
eyes
and
you
knowed
you
was
wrong.
He
was
a
mountain
of
a
man,
and
I
want
you
to
know.
He
could
preach
hot
hell
or
freezin'
snow.
He
carried
a
Bible
in
a
canvas
sack
and
folks
just
called
him
The
Reverend
Mr.
Black.
He
was
poor
as
a
beggar,
but
he
rode
like
a
king.
Sometimes
in
the
evening,
I′d
hear
him
sing:
Il
chevauchait
facilement
sa
selle.
Il
était
grand
et
maigre,
et
au
premier
abord,
tu
aurais
pensé
que
seule
une
bande
de
méchants
pouvait
faire
paraître
un
homme
si
fort,
mais
un
regard
dans
ses
yeux
et
tu
savais
que
tu
te
trompais.
C'était
une
montagne
d'homme,
et
je
veux
que
tu
le
saches.
Il
pouvait
prêcher
l'enfer
chaud
ou
la
neige
glaciale.
Il
portait
une
Bible
dans
un
sac
en
toile
et
les
gens
l'appelaient
simplement
le
Révérend
Monsieur
Black.
Il
était
pauvre
comme
un
mendiant,
mais
il
chevauchait
comme
un
roi.
Parfois
le
soir,
je
l'entendais
chanter :
I
gotta
walk
that
lonesome
valley.
I
got
to
walk
it
by
myself.
Oh
nobody
else
can
walk
it
for
me.
I
got
to
walk
it
by
myself.
Je
dois
marcher
dans
cette
vallée
solitaire.
Je
dois
la
traverser
tout
seul.
Oh,
personne
d'autre
ne
peut
la
traverser
pour
moi.
Je
dois
la
traverser
tout
seul.
[2nd
& 3rd
times:]
You
got
to
walk
that
lonesome
valley.
You
got
to
walk
it
by
yourself.
Oh
nobody
else
can
walk
it
for
you.
You
got
to
walk
it
by
yourself.
[2e
et
3e
fois :]
Tu
dois
marcher
dans
cette
vallée
solitaire.
Tu
dois
la
traverser
tout
seul.
Oh,
personne
d'autre
ne
peut
la
traverser
pour
toi.
Tu
dois
la
traverser
tout
seul.
If
ever
I
could
have
thought
this
man
in
black
was
soft
and
had
any
yellow
up
his
back,
I
gave
that
notion
up
the
day
a
lumberjack
came
in
and
it
wasn't
to
pray.
Yeah,
he
kicked
open
the
meeting
house
door
and
he
cussed
everybody
up
and
down
the
floor!
Then,
when
things
got
quiet
in
the
place,
he
walked
up
and
cusses
in
the
preacher's
face!
He
hit
that
Reverend
like
a
kick
of
a
mule
and
to
my
way
of
thinkin′
it
took
a
real
fool
to
turn
the
other
face
to
that
lumber
jack,
but
that′s
what
he
did,
The
Reverend
Mr.
Black.
He
stood
like
a
rock,
a
man
among
men
and
he
let
that
lumberjack
hit
him
again,
and
then
with
a
voice
as
quiet
as
could
be,
he
cut
him
down
like
a
big
oak
tree
when
he
said:
Si
jamais
j'avais
pu
penser
que
cet
homme
en
noir
était
doux
et
avait
de
la
lâcheté
dans
le
dos,
j'ai
abandonné
cette
idée
le
jour
où
un
bûcheron
est
arrivé
et
ce
n'était
pas
pour
prier.
Oui,
il
a
enfoncé
la
porte
de
la
maison
de
réunion
à
coups
de
pied
et
il
a
insulté
tout
le
monde
sur
le
sol !
Puis,
quand
les
choses
se
sont
calmées
dans
la
pièce,
il
s'est
approché
et
a
insulté
le
visage
du
prédicateur !
Il
a
frappé
ce
révérend
comme
un
coup
de
pied
de
mule
et
à
mon
avis,
il
fallait
être
un
vrai
imbécile
pour
tourner
l'autre
joue
à
ce
bûcheron,
mais
c'est
ce
qu'il
a
fait,
le
Révérend
Monsieur
Black.
Il
se
tenait
comme
un
roc,
un
homme
parmi
les
hommes
et
il
a
laissé
ce
bûcheron
le
frapper
à
nouveau,
puis
d'une
voix
aussi
douce
que
possible,
il
l'a
abattu
comme
un
grand
chêne
quand
il
a
dit :
It's
been
many
years
since
we
had
to
part
and
I
guess
I
learned
his
ways
by
heart.
I
can
still
hear
his
sermon′s
ring,
down
in
the
valley
where
he
used
to
sing.
I
followed
him,
yes,
sir,
and
I
don't
regret
it
and
I
hope
I
will
always
be
a
credit
to
his
memory
′cause
I
want
you
to
understand.
The
Reverend
Mr.
Black
was
my
old
man!
Il
y
a
de
nombreuses
années
que
nous
devons
nous
séparer
et
je
suppose
que
j'ai
appris
ses
habitudes
par
cœur.
J'entends
encore
le
son
de
ses
sermons,
dans
la
vallée
où
il
chantait
autrefois.
Je
l'ai
suivi,
oui
monsieur,
et
je
ne
le
regrette
pas
et
j'espère
que
je
serai
toujours
à
la
hauteur
de
sa
mémoire,
car
je
veux
que
tu
comprennes.
Le
Révérend
Monsieur
Black
était
mon
vieux !
