Ich bin sehr teuer, selten und nervös!

Ich habe leider ziemlich große Krallen
Und wenn ich fliege, sieht es kläglich aus
Doch, wer mich liebt, dem werde ich gefallen
Und alle Welt steht vor dem Vogelhaus!

Klug bin ich nicht. Klugheit ist nicht bei allen
Viel liegt nicht hinter meiner Vogelstirn
Ich will gefallen - immer nur gefallen
Ich bin ein schöner Pfau. Ich brauche kein Gehirn!

Nur singen darf ich nicht. Das ordinäre
Gekrächz' ist nicht zu sehen, wie mein Bildnis zeigt!
Ich bin ein Pfau. Und eine schöne Lehre:
Wer dumm und schön ist, setzt sich. Siegt. Und schweigt!

I am a peacock. In my white wings
The veil of the sun catches the sunlight
And all the women who passed by
Caress the silver shine with their eyes!

I know that I am very beautiful. My feathers
On my head I often set capricious
I have the whitest of all peacock wheels
I am very expensive, rare, and nervous!

I unfortunately have quite large claws
And when I fly, it looks pitiful
But who loves me, I will please
And all the world stands before the birdhouse!

I am not clever. Cleverness is not in everyone
There is not much behind my bird's forehead
I want to please - always only please
I am a beautiful peacock. I don't need a brain!

Only I mustn't sing. The vulgar
Croak is not to be seen, as my portrait shows!
I am a peacock. And a beautiful lesson:
Whoever is stupid and beautiful, sits down. Wins. And is silent!
