Mein Freund, der Fritz, hat mir

Sie reden dies und das –
Worüber, weiß ich nicht
Ein Wort löst's andere ab
Dann kommt der Kohn dazu
Und der sagt auch etwas –
Was ich vergessen hab

Und dann kommt die Pointe
Grad die weiß ich nicht mehr
Der Witz war aus. Der Fritz ging weg
Mein Herz war schwer

Ich ging bedrückt nach Haus
Und sagte selbst zu mir:
"Wer hätte das gedacht
Dass mich mein eigener Freund –
Vielleicht mit Absicht gar –
So melancholisch macht!"

Und drum verlang ich am Ende
Nur eins von dir, mein lieber Fritz
Wenn wir uns wiederseh'n:
Erzähl mir was du willst, nur kane Witz'

The Joke

My girlfriend, Lisa, shared
A really funny joke
Now my heart feels heavy
The joke was really good
And I laughed so hard
Like I haven't in a long time

Blue meets Green –
Or maybe it was the other way around
And says: "How are you doing?"
Then Green says to Blue –
Or maybe it was the other way around:
"I don't have any money on me!"

They chat a bit –
About what, I don't know
One word leads to another
Then Kohn shows up
And he says something too –
What it was I've forgotten

Then comes the punchline
Which I can't remember
The joke was over. Fritz left
My heart was heavy

I walked home depressed
And said to myself:
"Who would have thought
That my own girlfriend –
Perhaps even on purpose –
Would make me feel so sad!"

And so I ask, in the end,
Just one thing of you, my dear Lisa
When we see each other again:
Tell me anything you want, just no jokes
