Jennifer slept in her little bed
With dreams of a rabbit in her little head
Jennifer's rabbit, brown and white
Left the house and went to town one night
Along with a turtle and a kangaroo
And seventeen monkeys from the city zoo
They went for a ride on an old street car
They tried to drive it but they didn't get far
They all got tired and decided to go
To see the people in the picture show
Jennifer's rabbit, white and brown
Looked in the windows of the shops downtown
He found a dress for Jennifer to wear
And a pretty blue ribbon for her long blond hair
Then the rabbit and the turtle and the kangaroo

Bowed to each other like polite folks do
They went to a shop where the cookies are free
And they all had cookies and oolong tea
Then, "My!" said the turtle as the clock struck three
"The hour is growing very late for me."
"Not at all," said the rabbit. "If you give me a chance,
I'll lead all the monkeys in a hula dance!"
So they danced all night and the moon danced too
Then the rabbit and the turtle and the kangaroo
Jumped into bed and closed their eyes
And were fast asleep before the sun could rise
And Jennifer slept in her little bed
With dreams of a rabbit in her little head

Jennifer dormait dans son petit lit
Avec des rêves d'un lapin dans sa petite tête
Le lapin de Jennifer, brun et blanc
A quitté la maison et est allé en ville une nuit
Avec une tortue et un kangourou
Et dix-sept singes du zoo de la ville
Ils sont allés faire un tour sur un vieux tramway
Ils ont essayé de le conduire mais ils n'ont pas pu aller loin
Ils se sont tous fatigués et ont décidé d'aller
Voir les gens au cinéma
Le lapin de Jennifer, blanc et brun
A regardé dans les vitrines des magasins du centre-ville
Il a trouvé une robe pour Jennifer à porter
Et un joli ruban bleu pour ses longs cheveux blonds
Puis le lapin et la tortue et le kangourou

Se sont salués comme des gens polis
Ils sont allés dans un magasin où les biscuits sont gratuits
Et ils ont tous mangé des biscuits et du thé oolong
Puis, "Mon Dieu !" dit la tortue lorsque l'horloge a sonné trois heures
"L'heure avance beaucoup pour moi."
"Pas du tout," dit le lapin. "Si tu me donnes une chance,
Je ferai danser tous les singes dans une danse hula !"
Alors ils ont dansé toute la nuit et la lune a dansé aussi
Puis le lapin et la tortue et le kangourou
Ont sauté au lit et ont fermé les yeux
Et étaient endormis avant que le soleil ne se lève
Et Jennifer dormait dans son petit lit
Avec des rêves d'un lapin dans sa petite tête
