Poikanen olin kun kutsun mä sain

As a young man, I received a call
To go to the front from my home
Mother didn't cry, she just said
Remember to dress warmly underneath
And we marched, we danced, we even fell
But we rose from the fatherland
I saw my life in the evening glow
How did it feel to be a soldier
Standing in line with the volunteers
I finally got my badge in my hand
Adding a year or two to my age
Aspiring for glory in a hurry
Fall back and stand up straight, shoulder arms
Orders from above are from God
And when the line is straight and wide
How did it feel to be a soldier
I woke up in uniform and saw my comrades
Who had gotten shrapnel in the neck

But though I called for Mother, she didn't come
