Dancing in the Rain

The clouds hang low over the city,
Almost as if you could touch them.
The rain that has not yet begun,
I can almost feel it now.
Weeks of nothing but this bright blue,
Heat, dust, and drought.
Finally, everything turns dark gray,
Long-awaited rainy season.
Hot wind swirls sand and dust,
The wait is long, the anticipation great.
Just a spark seems to be missing,
I think things are really going to get going now.
Everyone looks up at the sky in amazement,
The change seems to be imminent.
Suddenly, all the floodgates open,
I've never seen anything like it.
And we dance in the rain,
Our arms in the air.
