Doch i hob ma's so ausg'suacht,
I hob's so woll'n
Und es is 'kommen, wie i's verdient hob,

I brauch net überlegen
Was könnt i sonst no tuan,
Denn hätt i wos anderes werd'n soll'n
Dann wär i was anderes wordn.
An mir scheiden sich die Geister
I bin beliebt und doch schwer in Verruf,
Geschützt und exponiert zugleich
Durch mein seltsamen Beruf.

My Strange Profession

I would like to say,
That I am a friend of mankind,
And I am very happy with my environment
When it is peaceful and united.
But I still do not have a
Very good reputation -
I am partly misunderstood
Because of my strange profession.

My strange profession requires,
That I myself am also a bit strange.
To oppose this in any way
Would make no sense at all.
I am a rough nature,
As a rough life created me,
And I am the way I am only through
My strange profession.

My strange profession is my destiny.
It is my joy, it is my everyday life
And my torment,
But I chose it for myself,
I wanted it that way
And it came as I deserved it,
And as it was supposed to come.

I do not need to think
What else I could do,
Because if I were supposed to become something else
Then I would have become something else.
The spirits separate on me
I am loved and yet in disrepute,
Protected and exposed at the same time
By my strange profession.

My strange profession is my destiny.
