Und wenn a neuer Tag beginnt, dann bin i weg,
Ganz leise, ohne Aufseh'n.
Und wia a Phönix aus der Osch′n
Werd i plötzlich dosteh'n.

Ma is nur frei, wenn ma allanig is,
Wenn's rundherum nix gibt, des an′ woa anhob'n könnt'.
Und i wünsch ma so, i hätt die Kraft dafür,
Des ane nur zu tuan, wos ma Leb′n nennt.

Like an Eagle

Who knows how long there will be an eagle,
Who flies over the highest peak,
Majestic, proud and free.
Who loves his freedom above all else,
And who defeats his worst enemy
Alone through his cry.

And who at the first ray of sunshine raises his wings
And silently floats away.
And who sometimes plunges into the depths like a waterfall
But rises again,

He is so free because he is alone,
Because there is nothing around that could hurt him.
I often wish I could be like him
