I went down to the fishing hole
And I set down with my fishing pole
Something grabbed my hook and it got my bait
And it jerked me out in the middle of the lake
Some jump, I got sunk

Fishing down on the muddy bank
Felt a pull and give a big yank
I hauled out three old rubber boots
And a Ford radiator and a Chevrolet coupe

Settin′ in a boat with a bucket of beer

I guess I was pretty well satisfied

You go set down by the grassy slough
Take a piece of string and tie it on your pole
And throw it way out in the middle of the hole
Find you a good shade tree and then just set down
Go to sleep, forget all about it

Jumped in the river and went down deep
There was a hundred pound catfish lying there asleep
Jumped on his back and rode him into town
Saddled him up and I come to town

When the water goes bad, the fish all run

I waded out to a sandy bar

To go out a-fishin′ in the middle of the ocean
Throwed out my line, I caught me a shark
I didn't get him home ′til way past dark
He a man-eater, tough customer

Late last night I had me a dream
I was out fishin′ in a whiskey stream

Threw out a drink and bring a gallon back
Done pretty good 'til the creek run dry
So I gave my fish back to the finance company

Prends un morceau de ficelle et attache-le à ta canne à pêche
Et lance-le au loin au milieu du trou
Trouve-toi un bon arbre ombragé et puis installe-toi
Va dormir, oublie tout ça

J'ai sauté dans la rivière et je suis allé au fond
Il y avait un poisson-chat de cent livres qui dormait là
J'ai sauté sur son dos et je l'ai chevauché jusqu'en ville
Je l'ai sellé et je suis arrivé en ville
Les gens sont venus en courant, en regardant
Les chiens aboyaient, les enfants hurlaient

L'eau stagnante est une chose qui pue
Lisse en haut et toute verte

J'ai pataugé jusqu'à un banc de sable

J'ai joué aux dés, je suis allé en prison

Tôt un matin, j'ai eu l'idée
D'aller pêcher au milieu de l'océan
J'ai lancé ma ligne, j'ai attrapé un requin
Je ne l'ai pas ramené à la maison avant la nuit
C'est un mangeur d'hommes, un client coriace
Il n'était pas assez coriace

Tard la nuit, j'ai fait un rêve
J'étais en train de pêcher dans un ruisseau de whisky
J'ai appâté mon hameçon avec de l'apple-jack
J'ai jeté un verre et j'ai rapporté un gallon
