Il a chanté ses chansons,
Veillé sur elle au salon.
Il écoutait ses poèmes,
Expliquait bien les problèmes.

Ensemble autour de la rade,

Si ses parents la grondaient quelquefois,
Elle se cachait dans ses bras.

Il avait fait la guerre, autrefois,
Mais n'en parlait presque pas.
Elle pense à lui chaque jour
Mais n'attend plus son retour.

Quand il partait en voyage,
Il écrivait quelques pages.
Parfois si tendre et secret,
C'était ainsi qu'elle l'aimait.

Elle était grande et pourtant,
On autait dit une enfant,
Une petite fille qui pleurait son grand-père
Devant les grands de la terre.

Entre les larmes, elle disait
Que jamais nos regrets
Ne lui ramèneraient,
Malgré les Princes et les Rois,
Tout son bonheur d'autrefois.

Elle dessinait sa maison
Avec au loin l'horizon.
Il ajoutait dans le ciel
Une colombe, un soleil.

C'était pour elle qu'il voulait
Tendre la main vers la paix
Et regarder les enfants désunis
Sortir enfin de la nuit.

Il était grave et sérieux parfois
Et elle ne comprenait pas.
Elle pense à lui chaque jour
Mais n'attend plus son retour.

Entre les larmes, elle savait
Qu'aucun hymne à la paix
Ne lui ramènerait,
Malgré l'espoir et la foi,
Tout ce bonheur d'autrefois.
