S-a-ntunecat pământul tot
De Statu-Palmă-Barbă-Cot.
El este mic, dar răul lui
Apasă lumea Codrului.
De parcă-un mare, negru nor
S-a-ntins deasupra tuturor,
Din loc în loc, din zare-n zare
Nu vezi nici frunză și nici floare.
Statu-Palmă-Barbă-Cot bărbos
Va lupta cu Făt-Frumos vârtos!
Statu-Palmă-Barbă-Cot
Va mânca un uppercut!
Și timpul s-a oprit în loc
Tot ce-a fost viu, a ars în foc,
Tot ce-a fost bun este acum
Numai cenușă, fum și scrum.
Și păsările-au amuțit,
Și verdele s-a ofilit
De parcă-aici a poposit
O iarnă grea fără sfârșit.
De parcă-ntre pământ și cer
E numai viscol, frig și ger
Și între ceruri și pământ
Nu e nimic curat și sfânt…

Va lupta cu Făt-Frumos vârtos!

Va mânca un uppercut!
Dar oricât e de fioros
Piticul crâncen și bărbos,
Există-n lume Făt-Frumos,
Viteazul bun și curajos.
Nu poate Făt-Frumos răbda
Că mândrul Codru e prădat
Și că Ileana Cosânzeana
Și-a coperit cu lacrimi geana.
Cu spadă și cu buzdugan
Pe calul iute, năzdrăvan,
El vine, ca un fulger vine.
Zburând pe-aripile luminii.
El spada-n aer o ridică,
Piticu-i secerat ca spicul.
Dar sare iute în picioare
Și-n Făt-Frumos lovește tare.
Acuma cade Făt-Frumos.
Dar se ridică viforos
Și își avântă buzduganul,
Și cade amețit dușmanul.
Dar se ridică înapoi
Și se-ncleștează amândoi
Și-n trântă crâncenă se-avântă!
Dar Făt-Frumos spada-și împlântă
În Statu-Palmă-Barbă-Cot
Și Statu-Palmă cade-n bot,
Și Statu-Palmă e răpus!
Domnia neagră a apus,
Bătaia cruntă s-a-ncheiat.
Și cerul s-a înseninat,
Și se ridică mândru soare,
Peste pădurea-nfloritoare,
Și la lumina lui răsare
Ca o mireasă, ca o floare
La mijloc mândru de poiană
Dulcea Ileana Cosânzeana
Și îl sărută drăgăstos
Pe-nvingătorul Făt-Frumos.
Și unde-a fost câmp de bătaie
Își poartă nunta lor alaiul.
Și veselia este mare
Din loc în loc, din zare-n zare!

The whole earth has become dark
By Statu-Palm-Beard-Elbow.
He is small, but his evil
Oppresses the world of the Forest.
As if a great, black cloud
Spread over all,
From place to place, from horizon to horizon
You see neither a leaf nor a flower.
Statu-Palm-Beard-Elbow with a beard
Will fight the valiant Făt-Frumos!
Statu-Palm-Beard-Elbow
Will eat an uppercut!
And time stopped
Everything that was alive burned in a fire,
Everything that was good is now
Just ash, smoke and cinder.
And the birds grew numb,
And the green withered
As if a harsh winter has settled here
Without end.
As if between earth and sky
There is only blizzard, cold and frost
And between the heavens and the earth
There is nothing pure and holy…

Will fight the valiant Făt-Frumos!

But no matter how fierce
The fierce and bearded dwarf,
There is Făt-Frumos in the world,
A valiant and courageous hero.
Făt-Frumos cannot bear
That the proud Forest is robbed
And that Ileana Cosânzeana
Covered her eyelashes with tears.

On a fast, mischievous horse,
He comes like a flash of lightning.
Flying on the wings of light.
He raises his sword in the air,
The dwarf is harvested like a spike.
But he jumps quickly to his feet
And hits Făt-Frumos hard.
Now Făt-Frumos falls.
But he rises vigorously
And throws his mace,
And the enemy falls dizzy.
But he rises again
And both grapple
And they throw themselves into a fierce fight!
But Făt-Frumos thrusts his sword
Into Statu-Palm-Beard-Elbow
And the Statu-Palm falls on his face,
And Statu-Palm is defeated!
The black reign is over,
The fierce battle is over.
And the sky cleared up,
And the proud sun rises
Over the blooming forest,
And in the light of his sunrise
Like a bride, like a flower
In the middle of a proud meadow
Sweet Ileana Cosânzeana
And kisses affectionately
The victorious Făt-Frumos.
And where there was a battlefield
Their wedding train is carried.
And the joy is great
From place to place, from horizon to horizon!
