働いた後に枝豆ビール
「これぞぜいたく」ってよく聞く

求められる自分のコントロール
化学物質やジャンクフード・油も塩も控えめにするの

でも仕事につく前この条件じゃ私にゃムリなんて思わなかった

Speedy Mother

When I wake up, the first thing that comes to mind is
The countless tasks from yesterday I left behind.
So much left undone.
I fell asleep, leaving everything alone.

But now I’m encouraging myself.
I’m grateful for this job, for all its wealth.
I’ll blow away this drowsiness with spirit.
Bear it all without complaint or merit.
For the thought of taking it slow,
There’s no time to even know.
There’s so much to do,
And I don’t want to be slow.

This is what you could call “labor.”
If I expect compensation, oh no!
There’s no paid time off or bonus.
Where’s my supervisor with applause?
I found an online evaluation.
I dream big, but I shouldn’t compare.
This work is for me, and no one else.

As an adult, I’ve come to see
That labor can be of different varieties.
No reward, no words of encouragement.
This is truly unrewarded labor.

Full speed ahead, day and night,
This is harder than a job I might
Quit in a second. There’s no payback,
No end in sight. I have to make my own way.

After work, I have edamame and beer.
“This is extravagance,” or so I hear.
But even this is a forbidden pleasure,
And I must control myself as a measure.
I limit myself in chemicals and junk food, salt, and oil,
I stay away from cigarettes like I would a crocodile.

But before I started this job, I never thought I’d struggle so,
The terms don’t matter if you love it, you know.
I’m sure I can do it, in my own way,
I love this work, I say.
Even if it goes unrewarded,
This is my major contribution.
Not everyone could do this, I reckon.

If you take pride in your mission,
Then all will be well, I reckon.
No matter what the anxieties or loneliness,
That little smile can help you press on.

No one will praise you.
More likely you’ll get warnings and taboos.
