All the cows out from the pastures trampling the pumpkins
And the horses from their stable ambling in the corn

And I've flown unnoticed just behind you like an insect
And I've watched you like a falcon from a distance as you passed.

Then swooped down to be nearer, to the traces of the footsteps
To pick the fallen grain from the pressed-down dirt and crooked grass.

And I′m gonna take that grain and I′m gonna crush it all together
Into the flour of a bread as small and simple and sincere.

As when the dryness and the rain finally drink from one another
The gentle cup of mutually surrendered tears, C'MON!

A fish swims through the sea
While the sea is in a certain sense,
Contained within the fish!
Oh, what am I to think
Of what the writing of a thousand lifetimes
Could not explain
If all the forest trees were pens
And all the oceans, ink?

D'abord un vent violent est venu,
Arrachant les toits des bâtiments comme des capsules de bouteilles
Et pliant les lampadaires jusqu'à terre.

Puis le tonnerre a fait voler mes fenêtres en éclats
Mais tu n'étais pas ce vent violent ni ce bruit puissant

Tu as laissé le bar en ruine,
Le clapier en ruines,
La clôture en rails fendue et les rideaux déchirés.

Toutes les vaches sont sorties des pâturages, piétinant les citrouilles
Et les chevaux de leur écurie se sont promenés dans le maïs

Et je me suis envolé inaperçu juste derrière toi comme un insecte
Et je t'ai observé comme un faucon de loin pendant que tu passais.

Puis je me suis précipité pour être plus près, sur les traces des pas
Pour ramasser les grains tombés de la terre aplatie et de l'herbe tordue.

Et je vais prendre ce grain et je vais le broyer pour en faire
La farine d'un pain aussi petit, simple et sincère.

Un poisson nage dans la mer
Tandis que la mer est, dans un certain sens,
Contenue dans le poisson !
Oh, que dois-je penser
