The Pen and the Hoe

Once upon a time, a pen, my dear,
Went for a stroll in the countryside.
It met a hoe, you see,
Working in the fields, diligently.

The hoe, so humble and kind,
Offered the pen a greeting so refined.
But the pen, so proud and vain,
Refused to take the hoe's hand, it's plain.
And to add insult to injury, my sweet,
It scolded the hoe, can you believe it?

The pen said to the hoe, "Stay away, you see,"
"Don't come near me, not even slightly."
"You're covered in dirt, it's true,"
"Dirty earth from the ground, through and through."

"Do you know who you're talking to, my love?"
"Consider your position, up above."
"And don't forget the distance, it's wide,"
"Between our stations, side by side."

"I'm the golden pen, so grand,"
"That writes in the notary's hand."
"I write for governments, it's my role,"
"The laws of the constitution, whole."

"I've written on linen paper, so fine,"
"For the rich man and the baron, in their prime."
"I only reside in the hands of the best,"
"Of men of position, above the rest."

The hoe replied, "Indeed, I live on the ground,"
"To provide food and clothing all around."
"To feed and clothe your master, you see,"
"And provide for everyone, even me."

"I came into the world first, long ago,"
"Almost in the time of Adam, you know."
"If it weren't for my sustenance and toil,"
"No one would have knowledge or education's spoil."

"Go away, proud pen, you bring only shame,"
"A disgrace to your generation and name."
"Your high nobility, it's a farce,"
"Nothing more than a pretentious, false spars."

"You say you write everything, but there's one thing you lack,"
"One important word, it's true, you're off track."
"It's the beautiful word, simple and plain,"
"That's called education, again and again."
