Trance music is originally from Giorgio Moroder's late-70s Euro disco. Donna Summer's I Feel Love,
which adeptly used the pulse of synthesizers and the rhythm of electronic drum machines,
made her the frontrunner of disco. Modern trance music first appeared in
1992. At the time, rave music was all the rage in Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany,
and two records from that era are considered the blueprint for the Trance we know today.
Jam & Spoon's Stella, with its beautiful melodies, is held in high regard by renowned trance DJs
such as BT and Paul van Dyk, while Hardfloor's Acperience influenced the more hard-edged
side of trance music.
Despite trance music briefly dominating rave culture in 1993,
it was quickly replaced by drum 'n' bass, then big beat,
and now house music is enjoying a resurgence thanks to groups like Basement Jaxx.
Around the world, though, trance remains the undisputed king of rave music
and in 1999, the genre experienced an explosion in popularity thanks to slick production,
increasing accessibility, and a huge marketing push. It's been used extensively
in video games and TV commercials, and even Hollywood has embraced the trance sound.
Trance has become one of the most popular forms of dance music.
