Δυο μάνες κλαίγανε
τα ίδια λέγανε τα μοιρολόγια
για γιους που θρέψανε
κι αυτοί πιστέψανε σε κούφια λόγια

Και οι δυο λεβέντες για δυο κουβέντες
είναι στο χώμα είναι στο χώμα

Και η μάνα η Τούρκα και η μάνα η Γκρέκα
τους κλαιν ακόμα τους κλαιν ακόμα

Στα ξένα σμίξανε
και οι δυο τραβήξανε λάζο μαχαίρι
"άπιστε!" βρίζανε
κι ύστερα στήσανε ψηλά το χέρι

Mother Turka

Two mothers cried
They spoke the same words in their laments
For the sons they had raised
Who believed in empty words

And the two brave men, over a few words
Lie in the ground, lie in the ground

And the Turkish mother and the Greek mother
Still weep for them, still weep for them

In a foreign land they met
And each drew a sword and a dagger
"Heathen!" they cursed
And then raised their hands on high
