Baptism by Fire

Ancient groves are full of voices,
Whispers of herbs and stones.
Smoke from bonfires stretches northward,
The enemy lurks in those lands.
Spirits of thunder beat the drum,
Forging swords from lightning's might.
We will bring sacrifice to the gods,
With our own blood, we shall ignite.
Against us - the gleam of Byzantine churches,
The opulence of feasts and gifts.
We condemn our children to death,
Knowing the cruelty of our foes.
Signs of the Moon threaten us with misfortune,
Arrows sing of one fate.
The choice is harsh - baptism by water,
Or baptism by fire's embrace!
We, maddened by anger, fought,
Believing in the immortality of souls.
The fallen shall not become a handful of earth,
But a guardian in the celestial garden's hold.
Down the river, idols float,
No one left to worship their form.
We are no more - is there a reason to live
In a world baptized by fire's storm?
Ancient groves remain silent for centuries,
In a world, baptized by fire's pyre.
