Зеленая лампа и грязный стол,
И правила над столом.
Сторож Сергеев глядит в стакан
И думает о былом;
Но вот приходят к нему друзья,
Прервав его мыслей ход.
И быстро вливают портвейна литр
Сторожу прямо в рот.

Друзья пришли к нему неспроста,
Пройдя не одну версту.
Они желают видеть его
На боевом посту.
И сторож Сергеев, забыв свой долг,
Ловит беседы нить;
И ставит стулья друзьям своим,
Поскольку им негде пить.

И он говорит с ними до утра,
Забыв обойти свой двор.
Он пьет, не глядя совсем на дверь,
Куда мог забраться вор;
Но ночь проходит, приходит день,
Как в мире заведено,
И сторож Сергеев упал под стол,
Допив до конца вино.

Зеленая лампа горит чуть-чуть,
И сменщик уж час как здесь.
А сторож Сергеев едва встает,
Синий с похмелья весь.
И он, трясясь, выходит за дверь,
Не зная еще куда;
Желает пива и лечь поспать
Скромный герой труда.

A green lamp and a dirty table,
And rules above the table.
Night watchman Sergeyev looks into a glass
And thinks about the past;
But now friends come to him,
Breaking the course of his thoughts.
And quickly pour a liter of port wine
Straight into the watchman's mouth.

Friends came to him for a reason,
Having passed more than one verst.
They want to see him
At the post.
And watchman Sergeyev, forgetting his duty,
Catches the thread of the conversation;
And puts chairs for his friends,
Because they have nowhere to drink.

And he talks to them till morning,
Forgetting to go around his yard.
He drinks, not looking at the door at all,
Where a thief could climb in;
But the night passes, day comes,
As it is customary in the world,
And watchman Sergeyev fell under the table,
Having finished drinking the wine.

The green lamp burns slightly,
And the shift worker has been here for an hour.
And watchman Sergeyev barely gets up,
Blue with a hangover.
And he goes out the door, shaking,
Not knowing where to go yet;
Wants beer and go to bed
A modest hero of labor.
