Последний залп прорвал тишину
И за горной грядой смолк
Будто бы там расстрелял войну
Артиллерийский полк
Вдыхает земля сквозь гарь и смрад
Весны крутой аромат
Из блиндажа, тишиной объят
Выбрался солдат
И смотрит, бросившись на траву
В майскую синеву
Морем течет над ним синева
И не нужны слова
И, первым теплом перо опалив
Свой дом разглядев вдали
Плывут запоздавшие журавли
Как небесные корабли
О чем они думают? Мне невдомек
На свете много дорог
Но синева, что густым-густа
Создана неспроста
Но журавли, что плывут, шурша
Держат упрямый строй
Но тишина, что звенит в ушах
Выстрадана мной

The Cranes

The last salvo broke the silence
And beyond the mountain ridge fell silent
As if there the artillery regiment
Had shot the war dead
The earth inhales through the smoke and stench
The heady scent of spring
Out of the dugout, enveloped in silence
A soldier emerged
And looking, throwing himself on the grass
Into the May blue
A sea of blue flows above him
And no words are needed
And, singeing a feather with the first warmth
Discerning his home in the distance
Belated cranes are flying
Like celestial ships
What are they thinking of? I can't fathom
There are many roads in the world
But the blue that is thick-thick
Was created for a reason
But the cranes that fly, rustling
Maintain a stubborn formation
But the silence that rings in my ears
Was hard-won by me
