Her basket full, she sought her way back home,
But the path was lost, leaving her to roam.
Fallen branches, gray mounds, and thick grass so high...

The girl called out, and to her plea,
A blue-eyed young forester came, happy to see.
“I'll help you,” he said, “if you need,
And show you the forest, its secrets to heed.”

For nuts they went, many times as two,
And then they married, a dream come true,
A village wedding, joyful and grand!
And sons and daughters came, a blessed band,
Like mushrooms in autumn, too many to count!
Golden autumn, perhaps, is what it's all about.
Russula and slippery jacks, milk mushrooms in a bunch,
Saffron milk caps and chanterelles, with a joyful crunch,
Unassuming morels, old boletus men,
Wild strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and then,
And viburnum, and raspberries too,
Berries, berries, berries of the forest through.
