Кошка в клетке смотрит на крыши
Чуть выше, где рисуют узоры провода
Вниз, где бегают мыши
И что-то обычно кидают из окна
И лай собак всё тише и тише
Кошка в клетке жмурится хитро
И точит когти о прутья, где-то родные задворки
И шипение старой конфорки, где-то весна
И снова рыбой полна река
И может даже лучше
Что не знает она
Что не доживет до утра
Кошке в клетке нет дела до птиц. Ни голубей, ни синиц
Не тронет она никогда и будет всегда
Умыта, согрета, сыта и никогда
Голодного "мяу" не будет спето
Кошку в клетку поймали петлёй
А завтра её на убой снесут те самые руки,
Что кормили её, грели в мороз
И так усердно спасали от скуки
И может даже лучше
Что не знает она
Что не доживет до утра
А где-то по бакам железным
Сестрёнки в полиэтиленовой плёнке
Путаясь ищут картошку, кусок рыбы
И кроют матом сытую кошку

The Cat

The cat in the cage looks at the rooftops
A bit higher, where the wires draw patterns
Down below, where mice scurry
And something is usually thrown from the window
And the barking of dogs gets quieter and quieter
The cat in the cage squints cunningly
And sharpens its claws on the bars, somewhere familiar backyards
And the hiss of an old stove, somewhere spring
And the river is full of fish again
And maybe it's even better
That she doesn't know
That she won't live to see the morning
The cat in the cage doesn't care about birds. Neither pigeons nor tits
She will never touch them and will always be
Washed, warm, fed, and never
A hungry "meow" will be sung
The cat was caught in the cage with a loop
And tomorrow she will be taken to the slaughter by the same hands
That fed her, warmed her in the cold
And so diligently saved her from boredom
And maybe it's even better
That she doesn't know

And somewhere by the iron bins
Her sisters in plastic wrap
Confused, looking for potatoes, a piece of fish
And curse the well-fed cat
And again they see colorful dreams
