Как пустилась в пляс метла-шалунья –
Вся изба ходила ходуном!
Ведро скакало кверху дном –
Его ногами били стулья,
И этот милый сердцу звон
Поднял всех пчел в соседских ульях,
И те, жужжа, умчались вон.
Во двор открытое окно
Крутилось, как веретено,
И ставни хлопали в ладоши.
Плясали лапти и калоши
Чарльстон, твист, рок-н-ролл и румбу.
Танцуя с пятки на носок
Комод опробовал вальсок
В обнимку с хромоногой тумбой.
Устав, решил поспать часок,
Снес дверь с петель и лег на клумбу.
С испугу разбежались мыши,
И кошка притворилась пнем.
Одна кастрюля со стряпней
Издав пронзительнейший свист
Ушла в трубу, крича: "Я – лифт!"
Крутился стол, качалось кресло.
Кадушка расплескала тесто.
Бил самовар по стенке лбом.
А я пришел домой под вечер –
И замер верстовым столбом.

Madhouse

As the mischievous broom started to dance,
The whole hut shook and swayed!
The bucket jumped upside down,
Kicked by the legs of the chairs,
And this sweet, familiar sound
Woke up the bees in the neighbor's hives,
And they buzzed and flew away.
The open window in the yard
Spun like a spindle,
And the shutters clapped their hands.
Bast shoes and galoshes danced
Charleston, twist, rock and roll and rumba.
Dancing from heel to toe
The chest of drawers tried a waltz
Embracing a limping bedside table.
Tired, it decided to nap for an hour,
Tore the door off its hinges and lay down on the ottoman.
The mice ran away in fright,
And the cat pretended to be a log.
A single pot with a stew
Emitting a piercing whistle,
Went into the chimney, shouting: "I'm an elevator!"
The table spun, the armchair swayed.
The tub splashed the dough.
The samovar banged its forehead against the wall.
And I came home in the evening –
And froze like a milestone.
