הדלת

בִּקַּשְׁתִּי לִבְרֹחַ מִפְּנֵי הָעוֹלָם וּבָא הָעוֹלָם
וְדָפַק עַל הַדֶּלֶת. וְלאֹ פָּתַחְתִּי. זָעַם הָעוֹלָם
וְהָלַם עַל הַדֶּלֶת. וְלאֹ פָּתַחְתִּי. רָכַן הָעוֹלָם
וְדָחַק פִּתְקֵי אַהֲבָה מִתַּחַת לַדֶּלֶת. וְלאֹ פָּתַחְתִּי.
עָשָׂה הָעוֹלָם אֶת עַצְמוֹ מִתְרַחֵק. וְחִכִּיתִי רֶגַע,
וְעוֹד אֶחָד, וְהָעוֹלָם הָיָה שָׁקֵט כְּפִי שֶׁלּאֹ הָיָה
מֵעוֹלָם. וְאֵינִי יוֹדֵעַ אִם בֶּאֱמֶת הֶאֱמַנְתִּי
אוֹ שֶׁמָּא רָצִיתִי לָלֶכֶת שׁוֹלָל, וּפָתַחְתִּי
אֶת הַדֶּלֶת לִרְוָחָה וְהָעוֹלָם נִבְהַל

The Door

I asked to flee from the world, and the world came,
Knocking at the door. I did not open. The world grew angry,
And pounded on the door. I did not open. The world stooped,
And pushed love notes under the door. I did not open.
The world pretended to walk away. I waited a moment,
And another. And the world was silent as it had not been
For ages. And I do not know if I truly believed
Or if I simply wished to be deceived, and I opened
The door wide and the world was startled.
