شؤون صغيرة تمر بها أنت دون التفاتِ
تساوي لديّ حياتي جميع حياتي
حوادث قد لا تثير اهتمامك أعمّر منها قصور
و أحيا عليها شهور، و أغزل منها حكايا كثيرة
وألف سماء وألف جزيرة، شؤون صغيرة
وحين أكون مريضاً وتحملي أزهاركِ الغالية
وتجعلي بين يديكِ يديي، يعود لي اللون والعافية
أبكي أبكي بغير إرادة، وانتي تردي غطائي علي
وتجعلي رأسي فوق الوسادة
تمنيت كل التمني، صديقتي لو أني
أظل أظل مريضا لتسألي عني
شؤون صغيرة
ويوم أجيئ إليكِ لكي أستعير كتاب
و أزعم أني أتيت لكي أستعير كتاب
تُراكي اكتشفتِ؟ تُراكي عرفتِ؟ بأني أتيت لغير الكتاب!
و أمضي سريعاً الي مخدعي، أضم الكتاب الى أضلعي
كأني حملت الوجود معي
و أشعل ضوئي و أسدل حولي الستور
و أنبش بين السطور وخلف السطور
لعلك يا صديقتي تركتي بإحدى الزوايا
عبارة حب قصيرة، جنينة شوق صغيرة
لعلكِ بين الصحائف خبئتي شئّا
سلاما صغيرا يعيد السلام اليّ
وحين نكون معاً في الطريق، وتأخذي من غير قصدٍ ذراعي
أحس أنا يا صديقتي بشئ عميق، بشئ يشابه طعم الحريق
و أرفع كفي نحو السماء لتجعل دربي بغير انتهاء
أبكي بغير انقطاعِ لكي يستمر ضياعي

Minor Matters

Minor matters you go through without a glance,
Are equal to my entire life, my whole existence.
Incidents that might not intrigue you, I build palaces from them,
I live on them for months, and I spin many tales from them,
A thousand skies and a thousand islands, minor matters.
When I'm sick and you carry your precious flowers to me,
And you take my hands in yours, color and well-being return to me.
I cry, I cry involuntarily, as you pull my blanket over me,
And you place my head upon the pillow.
I wished with all my might, my friend, that I
Would stay sick forever so that you would ask after me.
Minor matters.
And the day I come to you to borrow a book,
And I claim that I came only to borrow a book,
Did you discover it? Did you know? That I came for something other than the book!
I rush back to my bedchamber and I hug the book to my ribs,
As if I carried the whole world with me.
I turn on my light and draw the curtains around me,
And I search between the lines and behind the lines.
Perhaps you, my friend, left, in one of the corners,
A short sentence of love, a small garden of longing.
Perhaps you hid something between the pages,
A small greeting that would bring peace back to me.
When we are together on the road, and you take my arm unwittingly,
I feel something profound, my friend, something akin to the taste of fire.
I raise my hand towards the heavens to make my path unending,
I weep incessantly so that my confusion may continue.
