Birds of Exile

When our homeland is barren,
The spirit of our ancestors wanders.
We pack our belongings, a few things,
These little birds take flight from their nest.
We brave the waves, mountains, and seas.
We board a ship that’s about to fall apart.
We build a new life across the ocean.
It’s the hope of Sino-Siamese.
From morning to night, no matter how hard it is,
We beg for just a single bowl of rice.
Every bite of rice and water,
We remember the kindness.
So many customs, so many origins.
No matter the language or ethnicity,
On this side of the river, we are still Thai land.

Born from a distant land,
If one day, we are no more,
I want to leave the body of this exiled bird,
Under the earth of this country.
