Hui Guo Shi
Hui Guo Shi
In the snow of the north, the green forest and white trees sway
A young poet, yearning for fame, yet bound by poverty
The girl by his side, making straw into food
Even such a simple meal could move his heart.
He yearned for greatness, the dreams of his youth
He left the girl behind, the path ahead uncertain, the road cold
Her eyes red with unshed tears as she saw him off in the snowstorm
Surrounded by glamour and the sound of music
His eyes opened to a world of luxury and decadence
Yet his pockets were empty, not even enough for a night at an inn
He slept under the stars, alone
Even his lover's knitted sweater had to be sold
He clung to the belief that one day his words would be heard.
The narcissus bloomed, and with it his dreams in words.
After many trials, his words finally touched the hearts of the city
The girl in his poems, who had endured suffering for him
Received her long-awaited recognition.
He walked the streets, a celebrated figure,
His every word worth a thousand in weight
Yet beneath his success lay a hidden ache, a constant reminder
Through his lover's knitted sweater, he found his soul
And thought of how they had once shared a winter without warmth
In the August of the north, the silk-cotton tree stands still
The prodigal son returns home, his heart filled with longing
The devoted girl, now frail with illness,
Slips into the darkness.
The story of youth, cruel and unforgiving
Naïve dreams, their consequences harsh and unforgiving
Wandering through the August cold, his breath a frozen reminder.
His glory, carried by the wind to her grave
