The friends
With whom I set sail have disappeared
The years since I left home
Are buried behind the echoing sea

Although the sun is scorching
And the strong wind is raging
I silently follow my path,
With the conviction that one day I will reach it

There was nowhere where I was called
So I could not let the anchor drop
Vain dreams and mistaken longings lost their owner
And were carried away on the waves

I again as yesterday unfurled the sails
To the fair breeze which is swelling
From the same place as always
The stars in the sky were my companions who watched over me

Again I alone and lonely hold the helm
And sing the song of the sea
The horizon is endlessly distant
