This next song, actually, normally I would talk about
How motherhood has affected my interpretation of the song
After giving birth to my daughter
And how I didn't understand it at all until that point

But I don't know, the very first time I learned this song
It was in this building
The very first time I sang it in public was on this stage
Just before we left to go to London in 1989

So I was 17 when I first learned the song
As they were doing this worldwide search for Kim for Miss Saigon
So when I stand up on this stage, I get a little emotional
Because of just, what has happened since that first time here

So many people from our country
So many theater artists from our country have gone
But yeah, there was first group of 13 people that left
And then with every new production there's another group
And another

London, Stuttgart, The Netherlands, Hongkong, Singapore
Name it, we were there, it's been almost 30 years
And just recently another group of very hopeful people
Headed to the United Kingdom to play their part in this ongoing story

So I would like to sing this
Not so much as an ode to motherhood
But as somebody very grateful to be a part of this show's history
