While we were paying in coppers to get our rounds in at the bar
We're the C-team we're the almost famous old friends of the stars

Now Justin is the last of the great romantic poets
He's the only one among us who is ever gonna make it
And we planned the revolution from a cheap Southampton bistro
I don't remember details but there were English boys with banjos

Jay is our Saint George, he's standing on a wooden chair

And Adam is the resurrected spirit of Gram Parsons

My name is Frank Turner and this is the Sleeping Souls
Thank you for coming out this evening and
Welcome, I should say, to show number 2429
Uh which is a pretty crazy number by anybody's standards
Uhm it's also, it's show number 18 in Newcastle
And uh I promise you that the other 2411 shows meant nothing
And they were all just dress rehearsals until we got here this evening
Uhm ah 2429 that's the largest number
And uhm ah that's just shows tha I've done under my own name
That doesn't include other bands I was in when I
Was younger or side projects or anything like that

'Cause I did my first tour in the summer of 1998
Which is increasingly a depressingly long time ago
But I guess my point in taking about all of this is just to at that
Its, it's safe to say that I've spent most of my adult life on tour
Right and that's a wonderful thing,
I'm very happy and lucky to have done that
What I want to do tonight is to try and tell you some
Stories of the things that Ive learned over 21 years on the road
Because hopefully I've learned something Y'know what I mean
