Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow

Angels and archangels may have gathered there
Cherubim and Seraphim thronged the air
But God's own angel came on wing and made them fear
With the angelic host he came the winter through

What can I give him? I could not buy a lamb
