I went out to Old Joe's bar room
Most of my friends were there
But nobody seemed to understand my trouble

And when i got back to that St. James infirmary
All was still as night
Sweet baby layed on that long long table
She was pale, so cold and white

It was cold like marble stone
And I know that no woman could ever take her place
