Songtexte

I sat alone in silence just opened eyes
Saw the desert deep in her eyes
I'm leaving this old rainy jazz town behind
Let's drive for hours and not care what we find
The highway yawns and stretches into the night
Where even the radio dries up and dies
Our bones were left in the sun to decay
With nowhere to go and not a damn thing to say
Now the sky's an orange starless haze
This dark cloud my cynical gaze
Two hundred miles don't mean a thing
For it's all that will follow me
Only sound was blacktop melting away
I felt my heart do the same
Then hope finally started to sing
Her sad blissful melody
And she sang about how strange this life can be
About losing love and your dreams
To be in a crowd but feel alone
Like the world has swallowed you whole
Now the sky's an orange starless haze
This dark cloud my cynical gaze
Two hundred miles don't mean a thing
For it's all that will follow me
Well sometimes it's hard to pretend like you want to press on
But nonetheless we pressed on and on
And the desert sped by like a silent slow motion film
Till the highway grew thin and disappeared
And we said goodbye
Now the sky's an orange starless haze
This dark cloud my cynical gaze
Two hundred miles don't mean a thing
For it's all that will follow me
