Songtexte Life In One Day - Audio Commentary - Howard Jones

Yeah, there's an interesting story to "Life In One Day"
I remember playing the album
To the record company for the first time at the studio
Farmyard Studios, you know
Rupert was there, Steve was there, and I was there
And three top guys at Warner Brothers were there too, you know, to hear it
I was so excited about what we'd done, you know
I thought there was some really cracking tracks there
And at the end of it, you know
The message was from the record company
It wasn't enough hits on the album that they could get on the radio
So this threw me into a panic
Over one weekend, I wrote a song called "Life In One Day"
And it's ironic really, 'cause it's a song about
Not trying to live your life in one day
And look after yourself, take some time over things
Everything doesn't have to be done immediately
And there's me writing this song over a weekend
Panicking that I hadn't got any hits on the record
And you know, that was an important thing for the second album
You know, is it all going to end with the first one
Or are you going to continue your career, you know?
And so I wrote the song, and it turned out to be a really fab song
And I do oscillate with the lyrics of sort of loving them
And also not agreeing with some of them
It's a funny one, but I talked to the audience about it
And they kind of get an insight of songwriters' view of their own work
Again, you know, the arrangement has got a very sort of Latin feel to it
I don't know where all that really comes from really
I just love South American rhythm
And they occur all over the place in my work
I just can't really explain where the influence has come from
But it's just something that I just love and I'm still doing
You know, to this day, I love those rhythms
