his
original
report

lost
it
is
thought
to
form
a
basis
of
a
poem
by
Avienus,
a
4th
century
A.
D.
official
of
the
Roman
Empire.
An
extract
from
this,
one
of
the
earliest
written
descriptions
of
the
Celts,
is
followed
by
three
of
a
number
of
verses
ascribed
to
Colum
Cille
at
the
time
of
his
departure
from
Derry
in
the
6th
century
