Songtexte

It's not love if it's not free
Yet still, if it's not earned
Then there's no guarantee
That your love will be valued appropriately
Here you are pouring out your love unconditionally
On people that have no capacity
To love you back with reciprocity
That's the risk you run when you dare to love for free
Just look at Jesus
He looked like a fool
Humbling himself to be born as a human
All so, he could have the woman
Of his dreams
A broke, busted, and disgusted bride
That could never be clean enough to reside with him
So he came to her
How foolish was was he
Because not only did she take his love for granted
She delivered him up to be crucified
And dragged through the streets
That's the risk you take when you dare to love for free
Little did she know, it was all part of the prophecy
He chose to die a death so brutally
For his blood was the only currency
Strong enough to settle the debts of his bride to be
How foolish was he?
Why didn't he just leave her to die and rot in hell?
That's what she deserved from what I could tell
That's what she gets in return for all the hell she put him through
Jesus deserves to be happy, too
Instead, he died
Trying to prove his love
To an ungrateful bride
It cost him his life
And more than that
His dignity and pride
How foolish was he?
What did he get in exchange for all that misery?
He got a chance
A chance for the possibility
Of spending eternity
With the love of his life
You and me
Will you marry me?
He asks the world
"Excuse me, I don't believe in God, so no."
"Excuse me, my religion doesn't like you, Jesus, so, uh, no."
"Excuse me, sorry, I can't see what this has anything to do with me making more money, so, uh, that'll be a negative."
One by one
Doors are slamming in his face
Never mind that he traveled across time and space
Just to pop the question
Sadly, most everybody in the world
Served him with rejection
How foolish was he?
That's the risk you run when you love for free
They thought they were mocking a weak fool
Hanging naked on a tree
They couldn't see a mighty King
Humbling himself to protect his bride to be
The penalty of death is what she deserved rightfully
And even though most people said no
And didn't care to receive his life in exchange for giving him their own
Some people said yes
And that, my friends, is why love should be free
Though now you can see
That there's no guarantee
That you won't look like a fool out there
Loving unconditionally
It's not about the ones that reject you though
It's not about the ones that misuse you
It's not about the ones that abuse you
It's about the ones that say "yes"
I choose you
