Anarchy is something I do

It's a way of seeing the world

That's really what I subscribe to
These living, dynamic set of ideas
That are open-ended
It's more than just a political reference
Or an identity
Our struggles are tied together
Building and exercising power from below
Outside of economic institutions, or electoral institutions
Or even activism

Anarchy is something I do

Activism in the United States, I would say, is pretty broken
We should begin to see ourselves as more than activists, voters
Or consumers
Resist on one hand, but also create and build on the other hand

We're great at being fire brigades
We're the first ones in the barricades
Over and over again to say
This is wrong, that is wrong
And that needs to happen
But what's happened is that we've atrophied
For what is it that we're for

Anarchy is something I do

Everybody knows that shits bad
What we need to do is
Stop the tide of young black people being killed
Black and brown people who are largely being killed
What are the alternatives?
I want this to make sense to the brothers and sisters on the block

I watched power fall
That invisible stranglehold that's on us all the time
I watched it completely give way

Anarchy is something I do

Common Ground volunteers took direct action
Don't wait on governments or corporations
We take actions when we need to
Building our power from below

We're born into capitalism, we're born into these hierarchies
We assume that they've always existed this way, but they haven't
Capitalism, as we know it, will fall someday
So what do we want to do, to begin to replace it?

Everything in our lives brought us to this moment
Culturally, politically, geographically, personally
Brought us to this moment
Every moment is a new moment to begin
To open that crack of history

Anarchy is something I do

Take the blinders off
Take the would, could, should, out
We can do anything that we want
So if you're standing on the edge of potential
How's it going to look?
