Katyn

They push themselves up into the light like layers of skin,
A mass of staring faces from beneath the broken earth,
Looking out, one above the other, towards the sky,
But there are no ruins. This is no deserted city.
Once discovered, they scream with musty mouths,
Their arms, hollow inside, falling through their hands,
Into a trench that will never be empty again.
But there are no crosses. These are no ancestors' graves.
Belt buckles and buttons with rusted eagles,
Maggots race along the bowls of skulls,
Decayed photographs, keepsakes, maps of cities and villages.
But there are no weapons. This is no battlefield.
Perhaps they were all suffering from the same illness?
The same round wounds in the back of their necks.
Through which God's gift has flowed into the earth.
But there are no signs that this is a plague grave.
The trees that witnessed it still stand.
The earth still remembers the shape of a boot, the taste of blood.
The sky knows the language in which the orders were given,
Before the shots rang out, which it still echoes.
But these witnesses are alive, and therefore biased.
Besides, to hear them speak, you must enter the zone.
You can count on their silence, because it is their master's will,
The master of the air, the earth, and the imprisoned trees.
Behold, a world without death, a world of death without murder.
A world of murder without command, a command without voice.
A world of voice without body, and body without God.
A world of God without name, a name without destiny.
There is only one such place in the world,
