For many centuries nobody believed
there was a mountain in the African cloud.
With a snow-capped dome that rumbled and moaned;
Kilimanjaro was hidden in a shroud.
But the years have flown and the secrets are all known
About her equatorial paradise.
So I asked a Chagga guide to help me up her sides
through her rainforests, lava, snow and ice.
"Jambo! Jambo! Kilimanjaro!" a Chagga porter sang to me,
