Lyrics If You Listen To Their Story - Mike Bryant

He sat down at a table
A glass of whiskey clutched in his hand
While the people all around just ignored him
Dressed in rags he was a sad old man
But in his eyes
You could see his story
In his face were lines of many miles
I sat down and I offered to buy a drink
If I could sit and talk with him awhile
When he looked at me his eyes were weary
As if searching for the words to say
When he spoke he began to tell me
How his life began to fall away
He used to be a man of wealth and substance
A great job a home
All changed that day
His tears fell as he told his story
How he lost everything that fateful day
And as the old man talked how I listened
Just to let him talk his pain away
And I thought about how often we pass them by
When we should listen to what they say
Sometimes if we could take the time to listen
Maybe we could heal a life in pain
Taking time to listen to their story
Just might make them want to live again
