The Dubliners - The Wild Rover (Live) Lyrics

Lyrics The Wild Rover (Live) - The Dubliners

Here we go
I've been a wild rover for many's the year
And I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer
But now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the wild rover, no more
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more
I went into an ale-house I used to frequent
And I told the landlady my money was spent
I asked her for credit, she answered me nay
Such a custom like yours I can have any day
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more
I then took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight
She said, "I'd have whiskey and wines of the best"
And the words that she told me were only in jest
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more
I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son
And when they've caressed me as oft' times before
I never will play the wild rover, no more
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more
Will I play the wild rover
No, never, no more
Well, I got married in 1963
And I went to live in, well, that is my wife and I, she came with me
We went to live in a part of Dublin known as Upper Baggot Street
And there were a lot of queer-hawks living there at the time
And some of them went to be very famous queer-hawks as it happened
One of them being one of Ireland leading poet
A man called Patrick Kavanagh
Well, I got to know Paddy very well due to our comings and goings
And the local establishment that sells drink and err
One day, Paddy met a late, lamented, great friend and colleague of ours
Luke Kelly is a lot to mentions
And he met him in wild place
He met him in a wild place as a pope
And he said to Luke, he said, "Would you not sing my song, Luke?"
And Luke said, "What song is that, Paddy?" and he said, "Raglan road"
And Luke sang probably the definitive version of this song
But we are gonna sing it in memory of the late Clementine and loved Luke
