See the halibuts and the sturgeons
Being wiped out by detergeons.
Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly,
But they don't last long if they try.

You can use the latest toothpaste,
And then rinse your mouth
With industrial waste.

Just go out for a breath of air
And you'll be ready for Medicare.
The city streets are really quite a thrill—
If the hoods don't get you, the monoxide will.

Pollution, pollution!
Wear a gas mask and a veil.
Then you can breathe,
Long as you don't inhale!

Lots of things there that you can drink,
But stay away from the kitchen sink!
The breakfast garbage that you throw into the Bay
They drink at lunch in San José.

So go to the city,
See the crazy people there.
Like lambs to the slaughter,
They're drinking the water
And breathing (cough) the air!

Autrefois, on prévenait un Américain sur le point de partir à l'étranger
Par ses amis ou les guides touristiques de ne pas boire l'eau.
Mais les temps ont changé, et maintenant un étranger qui vient
Dans ce pays pourrait se voir proposer le conseil suivant :

Si tu visites une ville américaine,
Tu la trouveras très jolie.
Deux choses seulement dont tu dois te méfier :
Ne bois pas l'eau et ne respire pas l'air !

Pollution, pollution !
Ils ont du smog, des eaux usées et de la boue.
Ouvre ton robinet
Et tu auras de l'eau chaude et froide pleine de saletés !

Regarde les flétans et les esturgeons
Qui sont décimés par les détergents.
Les poissons doivent nager et les oiseaux doivent voler,
Mais ils ne durent pas longtemps s'ils essaient.

Pollution, pollution !
Tu peux utiliser le dernier dentifrice,
Et ensuite te rincer la bouche
Avec des déchets industriels.

Sors juste pour respirer un peu d'air
Et tu seras prêt pour l'assurance maladie.
Les rues de la ville sont vraiment excitantes —
Si les voyous ne te prennent pas, le monoxyde de carbone le fera.

Pollution, pollution !
Porte un masque à gaz et un voile.
Alors tu pourras respirer,
Tant que tu n'inhaleras pas !

Il y a beaucoup de choses que tu peux boire,
Mais tiens-toi à l'écart de l'évier de la cuisine !
Les déchets du petit-déjeuner que tu jettes dans la baie
Ils les boivent à midi à San José.
