Fireworks

You hate me and I hate you
And we're so polite we two!
Whenever I see you, I burst apart
The sky is scarred with my blazing heart
It spits and sparkles in stars and balls
Buds into rose and flares and falls
Scarlet buttons, pale greenness
Silver spires and asterias

Shoot and tremble in a mist
Covered with mauve and amethyst
I shine in the window and light up the trees
And all because I hate you, if you please!

And when you meet me, you render sunder
And go up in a flaming wonder of
Sapphire cubes, crimson moons
And weasel amaranths, amber roons
Golden lozenges and spades
Arrows of malachites and jades
Patents of copper, azure sheaths
As you march your flesh and lick closely leaves
Such fireworks as we make we two
Because you hate me and I hate you!
