A de santa Isabel tão afamada

Freguesia gentil que não tem par
É talvez de Lisboa, a mais dileta
De d. Diniz, a rua faz lembrar
O esposo de Isabel. O rei poeta

Lembra a rainha santa, quando vinha
Transformar o pão em rosas, com fé tanta
Ela que santa foi, menos rainha
Foi entre as rainhas, a mais santa

Freguesia onde enfim, moro também
Onde sempre pisei honrados trilhos
Nela casou a minha querida mãe
E nela é que nasceram os meus filhos

Que Deus me dê a graça, a alegria
Na vida tão cheiinha, de desgostos
A vir morrer na minha freguesia
Como um soldado morre no seu posto

My Parish

If all the singers nowadays
Streets and neighborhoods they sing about, renowned
I will sing to my parish
That of Saint Elizabeth so famous

A gentle parish that has no equal
It is perhaps of Lisbon, the most beloved
Of King Diniz, the street brings to mind
The husband of Elizabeth. The poet king

It reminds us of the saintly queen, when she came
To transform bread into roses, with so much faith
She who was a saint, less a queen
Amongst queens, she was the holiest

A parish where I finally live too
Where I have always trodden honorable paths
In it my dear mother married
And in it my children were born

May God grant me the grace, the joy
In life so full of sorrows
To come and die in my parish
As a soldier dies at his post
