Drowning
Underneath the waves
Reaching out for something to be some saving grace
But nothing firm is waiting there to hold
When it all comes down to it we are on our own
And we already know
Excuse me
Could you lend a hand?
We may be different but you understand
I've walked for miles in another's shoes
Carried these assumptions on my back to you
We never want to know just what it means to be
Another one below, the dirt beneath our feet
If everybody has a soul, what does that really mean?
What do we really believe?
Crashing into everything
Clumsily invading each other's openings
But we are not the conquerors we seem
Often we are blind to what is happening
Once we've spread our wings
We look below and see ...
Maybe we can just adapt
Maybe this is hopeless, maybe we are trapped
But something's wrong we've found ourselves at last
Reckoning with how we've fallen so very fast
We always seem to think that everything will be
The way it always was and god will help us see
But we're blinded by our faith in the air we need to breathe
What do we really believe?
And once the story ends another will begin
As told by someone else if we've failed our mission
If everybody has a choice, how can we really win?
What do we really believe?
The tide is coming in to wash us all away
We never had a chance, we couldn't see the days
Only seconds at a time, it felt so far away
I guess we might as well pray
Because nothing else will be the answer that we seek
No guiding hand of faith, no salvation for the meek
We all are Pharisees, denying reality
