Da draußen tobt und tost ein Tränenmeer,
Das brüllend, schäumend alles das verschlingt,
Was schreiend ich zum Himmel sing:

Ich lad Euch ein,
Kommt nur herein!
Hier drinnen seid Ihr nicht allein.
Wir malen Sprüche an die Wand,
Die draußen niemand lesen kann.

Setzt Euch auf meinen Stuhl - der Freiheit heißt!
Schlaft nur in meinem Bett - Gleichheit vereint!
Und brecht so brüderlich mit mir das Brot -
Als säßen wir im letzten Rettungsboot!

Thought House

From this house
I cannot get out,
Because this is my house of thought.
I built it myself,
Because your world out there is not for me!

Out there the third great war is raging,
Everyone only wants their own victory.
Trampled, stomped into the sand I lie
And scream myself for sanity:

LIBERTY, EQUALITY, FRATERNITY,
And I go
Back into my house of thoughts.

Back and forth,
I can't take it anymore!
Out there rages and roars a sea of tears,
That roars, foams and devours all that,
Which I scream into the sky:

LIBERTY, EQUALITY, FRATERNITY! ...

I invite you,
Just come in!
You are not alone in here.
We paint slogans on the wall,
Which nobody can read outside.

Sit on my chair - it's called freedom!
Sleep in my bed - equality unites!
And break bread with me in such brotherly fashion -
As if we were sitting in the last lifeboat!
