Erano, eravamo in piena rivolta studentesca
E amici, compagni, coetanei

Pensavano che fosse fuori dal mondo scrivere della storia di Gesù di Nazareth
In un momento di rivolta in cui tutti noi cercavamo di arginare
L'abuso di potere e di autorità dei professori a scuola
Che ci sbattevano il libretto nei piedi con scritto sopra "16"

Ho raccontato l'episodio di un individuo diventato famoso
Grazie al genio di Paolo Villaggio, si chiamava Fracchia
Che ha dato l'esame per 17 volte di istituzioni di diritto romano
Perché la professoressa, l'incaricata
Ed era stata incaricata perché era la moglie di un ministro, tutto lì
E allora lei siccome non capiva un belino di istituzioni di diritto romano
Si era fatta fare un pacco di dispense dal marito, 80 pagine
E le aveva imparate a memoria
Se uno non gliele ripeteva a memoria, come le sapeva lei, ti mandava via

Il povero Fracchia la sedicesima volta era riuscito quasi a superare l'esame
Ad agguantare il 18
Ma all'ultima domanda le ha vomitato la colazione sopra la cattedra

E c'erano dei, c'erano degli individui curiosi che facevano i professori, allora
Ce n'era un altro poveraccio che, professore di diritto Italiano, e viveva a Recco
E quando le navi degli inglesi bombardarono Genova
Lui pensò di rifugiarsi con la sua famiglia sotto il ponte di Recco, ecco

Voi sapete che è stato bombardato, l'han preso proprio come un piccione
La famiglia, poveraccio, sterminata e a lui gli è partita la calotta cranica
E gliene hanno messa una d'argento
Ma si sa con le arti chirurgiche del 1944
Si sono dimenticati qualche collegamento nervoso probabilmente
E allora ogni tanto lui perdeva la memoria

Era una brava persona
Tutte le volte che ti sedevi lì per dare l'esame, chiunque fossi ti chiedeva
"Mi parli dell'Authenticum"
Solo che poi perdeva la memoria
Se, ogni tanto se ne accorgeva, ogni tanto non se ne accorgeva
Se si accorgeva si dava una botta sulla calotta e rinveniva

Si presenta uno coi capelli rossi
E intanto lo manda, lo manda subito via e gli dice
"Lei con quei capelli rossi l'esame non lo dà, si va a mettere un basco e si ripresenta"
Questo qua ha girato tutta Genova per cercare un basco
Ha dovuto saltare la sessione

Si ripresenta col basco nella sessione successiva, si siede e lui gli dice
"Mi parli dell'Authenticum"
E lui tutto a memoria, sapevam tutti che dovevamo studiarci l'Authenticum
Glielo ripete tutto a memoria, l'occhio si appanna, lo lascia parlare fino alla fine
Si dà una botta e dice
"Sì, lei sta parlando, ma sta parlando a vanvera, io in fin dei conti le ho chiesto l'Authenticum"

Lui glielo ripete di nuovo tutto
Questo si riappanna
E insomma l'ha cacciato via, gli ha fatto dare l'esame tre volte
Questi erano i professori di fronte ai quali noi eravamo costretti
A cercare di prenderci delle lauree
E infatti quasi nessuno di noi si è laureato

E sembra strano, ma ho scritto delle canzoni anche prima della buona novella
Cioè ancora più antiche
Per esempio questa qui io credo che qualcuno non la conosca
Perché è del 62

La pensavo allora alla stessa maniera in cui la penso adesso
Cioè trovo ben poco merito nella virtù e ben poca colpa nell'errore
Anche perché durante tutta la vita
E fino ai 58 anni che sto per compiere a Febbraio

Non mi è mai capito di, non mi è mai successo di capire
Che cosa sia effettivamente l'errore
E che cosa sia, e che cosa sia la virtù
Insomma sentitela voi, giudicate voi

We were, we were in the midst of a student revolt,
And friends, comrades, peers
Would ask me: "What have you written here?"
They thought it was out of touch to write about the story of Jesus of Nazareth
During a time of rebellion when we were all trying to curb
The abuse of power and authority by professors at school
Who would slam our student IDs at our feet with a "16" written on them

I told the story of an individual who became famous
Thanks to the genius of Paolo Villaggio, his name was Fracchia
He took the exam for Roman Law Institutions 17 times
Because the professor, the one in charge
And she was in charge because she was the wife of a minister, that's all
And so, since she didn't understand a thing about Roman Law Institutions
She had her husband make a bunch of handouts, 80 pages
And she memorized them
If you didn't repeat them back to her word for word, as she knew them, she would send you away

Poor Fracchia, the sixteenth time, he almost managed to pass the exam
To grab that 18
But at the last question, he threw up his breakfast on her desk

And there were some, there were some curious individuals who were professors back then
There was another poor fellow, a professor of Italian Law, who lived in Recco
And when the English ships bombed Genoa
He thought he would take refuge with his family under the Recco bridge, you see

You know that it was bombed, they got him just like a pigeon
His family, poor thing, wiped out, and his skullcap was blown off
And they put a silver one on him
But you know, with the surgical arts of 1944
They probably forgot some nerve connections
And so every now and then he would lose his memory

He was a good person
Every time you sat there to take the exam, whoever you were, he would ask you
"Tell me about the Authenticum"
Only then he would lose his memory
Sometimes he would notice, sometimes he wouldn't
If he noticed, he would hit his skullcap and come to

This guy with red hair shows up
And meanwhile he sends him, he sends him away immediately and says
"You with that red hair, you're not taking the exam, go put on a beret and come back"
This guy went all over Genoa looking for a beret
He had to skip the session

He comes back with the beret in the next session, sits down, and he says
"Tell me about the Authenticum"
And he recites it all from memory, we all knew we had to study the Authenticum
He repeats it all from memory, his eyes glaze over, he lets him talk until the end
He hits his head and says
"Yes, you're talking, but you're talking nonsense, after all, I asked you about the Authenticum"

He repeats it all again
His eyes glaze over again
And in the end, he kicked him out, made him take the exam three times
These were the professors we were forced to face
To try and get our degrees
And in fact, almost none of us graduated

And it seems strange, but I wrote songs even before the good news
That is, even older ones

I thought about it then the same way I think about it now
